International Insurance Conference of Georgia in Batumi

On June 12–13, the International Insurance Conference of Georgia is being held in Batumi, co-organized by the Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia and the media agency XPRIMM (Promoting the Reinsurance & Insurance Market by Media). The event brings together over 100 guests from 18 countries, including representatives from the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS). Participating countries include Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Turkey, Malaysia, Montenegro, Romania, Slovakia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Switzerland, North Macedonia and the Czech Republic. Among them are high-ranking officials from supervisory authorities of 7 countries: Azerbaijan, Spain, Turkey, Montenegro, Slovakia, Kazakhstan and North Macedonia. The main goal of the International Insurance Conference 2025 is to unite various stakeholders of the insurance system around common approaches, which will contribute to the formation of a strong and sustainable insurance market.

XPRIMM specializes in insurance, reinsurance, insurance intermediation and private pension insurance topics. Therefore, this event serves as an important platform for market players and insurance supervisors to discuss the sector's challenges, strategies and development opportunities.

The event is attended by insurance and reinsurance companies, brokers, financial institutions, as well as representatives of international associations and regulatory bodies.

The large scale of the event is largely determined by the active involvement of David Onoprishvili, chairman of Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia, in the work of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS). Notably, he is a member of both the Implementation and Assessment Committee (IAC) and the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the IAIS. In this context, one of the conference speakers is Manuela Zweimueller, a senior representative of the IAIS team and a Special Adviser to the Secretary General (and former Head of Implementation at IAIS).

The conference is moderated by Professor Karel Van Hulle, a professor at Goethe University Frankfurt and the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. At the invitation of the Insurance Supervision Service, Professor Van Hulle periodically consults on the Solvency II system, to the development of which he made a direct contribution.

In his welcome speech to the conference participants, David Onoprishvili, chairman of the Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia, highlighted the main topics of the event. These included: the current state and development strategy of Georgia's insurance market; changes in the regulatory environment and harmonization with international practices; digital transformation and artificial intelligence; strengthening consumer protection and promoting financial literacy and the incorporation of sustainability and ESG standards into the insurance sector.

The Minister of Finance and Economy of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Jaba Putkaradze, also delivered a speech at the event.

As part of the event, there will be a presentation of the XPRIMM Insurance Profile Georgia FY2024 – a report that includes analysis of Georgia's insurance market and valuable insights for international partners.

The conference aims to facilitate knowledge sharing between local and international participants, strengthen trust in the sector and deepen effective dialogue essential for the long-term development of the insurance industry in Georgia.

This year’s event is co-sponsored by both local and international insurance companies: Aldagi, Ardi, Imedi L, Georgian Insurance Group and Turkish insurance group IUC. This support further underscores the significance of the conference and the high level of interest in the sector.
