David Onoprishvili Participates in the Meeting of the IAIS Implementation and Assessment Committee

On May 6–7, the Chairman of the Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia, David Onoprishvili, took part in a series of high-level meetings organized by the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), held in Basel, Switzerland.

The first day was dedicated to the meeting of the Implementation and Assessment Committee (IAC). The second day brought together members of both the IAC and the Policy Development Committee (PDC) for a joint session.

Committee members discussed ways to enhance the global effectiveness of implementing international insurance supervisory standards. Topics included monitoring of the Holistic Framework, updates from key IAIS forums working on risk-based solvency supervision, financial inclusion and insurance protection gaps, and a supervisory capacity-building initiative aimed at strengthening institutional frameworks across member jurisdictions.

The IAC plays a central role in advancing the IAIS mission, which focuses on promoting the sustainable development of the insurance sector and supporting global financial stability. Its work provides direct support to member jurisdictions by helping them identify implementation challenges and share the best practices.

During his visit Mr. Onoprishvili held bilateral meetings with several high-level officials: Gorazd Čibej - Managing Director of the Slovenian Insurance Supervision Agency; Ante Žigman - President of the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency; and Javier Castillo Garcia - Deputy Director-General for Regulation and International Affairs at Spain’s Directorate-General for Insurance and Pension Funds. Discussions focused on deepening cooperation and identifying the next steps for collaboration.

Such meetings are directly aligned with Georgia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen insurance supervision in line with international standards and to promote their effective implementation within the country.
