David Onoprishvili is elected as a Member of Executive Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors

On December 5, during the meeting of the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) held in Cape Town, South Africa, David Onoprishvili, Chairman of Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia was indorsed as a member of Executive Committee for a two-year term, where he will represent the Central, Eastern Europe and Transcaucasia (CEET) region within the Association.

It is noteworthy that the CEET region unites 11 EU member states (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia), 9 EU candidate countries (Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, Turkey, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro) and 7 non-EU countries (Israel, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, as well as Russia and Belarus, whose memberships in the IAIS has been suspended).

At the end of October, the CEET region held elections, during which David Onoprishvili was elected as the representative of this region to the Executive Committee of the Association.

According to the IAIS statute, the number of representatives in ExCo is determined according to the size of each region and the CEET region is entitled to have two seats, one of which now belongs to David Onoprishvili. His active engagement within the Association in recent years has been widely recognized by the leaders of supervisory authorities in the region.

The appointment of David Onoprishvili to this position aims to ensure the protection of the interests of the CEET region countries and considering their priorities in the process of the association's activities. Representation in the ExCo is a new and important milestone both for the country and the ISSSG. It is noteworthy that the first time ever a representative from a non-EU country has been elected to this position.  This decision opens new opportunities for Georgia to strengthen international cooperation within the region, share experiences and adopt approaches aligned with global standards. This is an important step towards enhancing Georgia's role in the international insurance system, creating more opportunities for collaboration with global leaders and making Georgia’s insurance sector more competitive and sustainable.

This achievement once again affirms Georgia’s growing role on the international stage and its strengthened position in fostering global partnerships.

ExCo’s future activities will now continue with the active involvement and contribution of Georgia’s Insurance State Supervision Service, marking a significant chapter in the country’s international engagement.
